ARMC5

Clinical Characteristics

Clinical Characteristics
Individuals with PBMAH may have the following symptoms:

  • Weight gain
  • Round face
  • Easy bruising
  • Bone loss or fractures
  • Depression or mood changes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Infections

However, not all patients will have these signs and symptoms, and some may have more mild forms of disease, or no symptoms at all. In rare cases, other hormones such as aldosterone or estrogen can be produced in excess. Diagnostic testing may include collection of urine, saliva, or blood to determine if cortisol is abnormally elevated. Additionally, follow-up tests may be performed, including computed tomography (CT) scans. PMAH causes large nodules to form on the adrenal glands, which can be visualized using CT.
