DCAF17 is a gene that produces a protein involved of largely unknown function. This protein is found in the nucleolus, a small region inside the nucleus of the cell where structures called ribosomes are assembled. The gene is active in several organs in the body, particularly the brain, liver, and skin. Mutations in DCAF17 cause the clinical manifestations described in the Clinical Characteristics Section.
