Treatment is based upon decreasing the symptoms as much as possible.
The following evaluations are recommended after diagnosis:
- Routine medical care by a paediatrician or other primary physician
- Cardiac and ophthalmologic evaluation
- If seizures are suspected, a consultation with a neurologist and an EEG
- Early intervention with occupational and physiotherapy for feeding problems, motor disturbances and hypertonia
- Speech therapy directed at improving communication. Sign language and pictures may improve non-verbal communication
- Involvement of a clinical geneticist following the initial diagnosis
