HCN1

Management

Surveillance
Patients with HCN1-related disorders are regularly seen at the epilepsy and neurology clinics to monitor antiepileptic drug levels, to perform EEG recordings, motor and cognitive development. Motor and cognitive development is assessed with neuropsychological evaluations when appropriate. HCN channels are also expressed in the heart, thus surveillance of cardiac function is also recommended.

Treatment of manifestations
Anti-epiletic drugs including carbamazepine; valproic acid, levetiracetam, phenytoin, barbiturates, lamotrigine and benzodiazepines are used to minimize seizure frequency. Rehabilitation of motor and cognitive functions is recommended.
