The in vitro knocked down of Gnpnat1 in rat primary chondrocytes significantly reduced proliferation, with a 1.6- and 2.1-fold reduction in expression levels of the chondrogenic marker genes Col2a1 and Alpl, respectively. It is suggested that GNPNAT1 is necessary for proliferation and differentiation of chondrocytes.
