It is likely that missenses of ADARB1 have deleterious effects to the RNA-editing activity of ADAR2 proteins which may lead to increased Ca2+ permeability of AMPA receptor involved in CNS transmission.
Molecular diagnosis can be achieved by exome/genome sequencing or panel testing (if ADARB1 is included on the panel).
