IPEX is a disorder that only affects males. Mothers of affect male are carriers of the pathogenic gene alterations and unaffected. Characterized by diarrhea, type 1 diabetes mellitus, and abnormalities of the skin. Currently, there have been fewer than 200 reported cases in the literature.
