Management

Medication and therapy can be implemented to slow the progression of ALS. However, there is currently no cure. CMT is also presently incurable, and symptoms are usually managed by a combination of physiotherapy, braces/orthopaedic devices  and surgery in some cases.

For patients with HSP, spasticity can be relieved with the use of muscle relaxants, such as Baclofen and Tizanidine, or botulinum injections. Physiotherapy can aid in improving and maintaining muscle strength, while surgery may be needed in severe cases to release tension in tendons or contracted muscles.
