Patients with the skin blistering disorder – epidermolysis bullosa with KLHL24 mutations – have skin defects at birth and lifelong skin fragility. In the course of the disease they develop scarring, hair loss and nail anomalies. Young adults must undergo screening for cardiac disease. Dilated cardiomyopathy may occur in adults leading to cardiac death.
