SACS

Management

Currently, management of ARSACS symptoms is through oral medications and physical therapy. For example, intrathecal baclofen, used to treat muscle spasticity in patients affected by multiple sclerosis, is also administered to ARSACS patients in order to control muscle spams and pain and to prevent tendon shortening and joint contractures; the goal being to delay major functional disabilities until the onset of muscle weakness and cerebellar ataxia.

There are no effective treatments for ARSACS and little is known about Sacsin functions.
