Children affected by Spondylodysplastic Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome type 1 (EDSSPD1 B4GALT7-related) display short stature, muscle weakness, overly flexible joints (especially of the hands). The skin is particularly soft and doughy, and wounds may take longer than average to heal. Most children have a recognizable facial appearance with prominent eyes and prominent forehead. The bones may be affected as well, resulting in scoliosis and bowed appearance of the limbs. Most children show a delay in the acquisition of motor abilities such as walking, and about half may also present with a delay in language, learning and/or intellectual abilities. Several children also present with eye problems such as strabismus and far-sightedness.
