The B4GALT7 gene produces a protein that is important for the correct development of several tissues, especially skin, bones and tendons. Each person has two copies of this gene. Pathogenic variants in both copies of the gene (i.e. changes altering its function) may cause spondylodysplastic Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome type 1.
