COL27A1

Management

Retrospective evaluation of patients with Steel syndrome showed that these patients have better outcomes without surgery to correct the hip dislocation. Patients that had surgery reported more pain and walking difficulties compared to individuals that had not undergone surgical treatment. The majority of patients reported with Steel syndrome and COL27opathies are children and therefore the natural course of the disease is not well documented. However, based on some initial findings in adults, it is recommended that patients are monitored for other skeletal problems that may worsen or appear with age, mainly scoliosis and other vertebral complaints.
