MBTPS2-related diseases are caused by spelling changes in the MBTPS2 gene. We do not yet know how specific changes in the MBTPS2 gene cause disease nor the exact disease mechanism, but we suspect it may be related to impaired cellular response to stress and compromised cholesterol synthesis, with cholesterol serving an important function during organ development.
