PRR12 is a protein coding gene; however, the exact function of this protein in cells is unknown at this time. Most of the mutations reported in patients result in decreased levels of this gene or generate an inactive or less active protein. When one copy of the gene is mutated, the remaining functional copy of the gene is not adequate to produce the needed protein to preserve normal function.
