TIAM1

Molecular characteristics

TIAM1 is a Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1 (RAC1)-specific guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF). RAC1 stimulates signaling pathways that regulate actin cytoskeleton organization, cell movement, differentiation, and proliferation. TIAM1 is enriched in the brain. The rodent ortholog, Tiam1, is also expressed in the brain, is present in dendrites and spines, and is required to maintain proper neurite outgrowth by RAC1-dependent actin cytoskeletal remodeling in rodents.
