Treatment for PLAN is symptomatic as there currently is no cure. Gene therapy research is ongoing. Because of the multi-system nature of the PLAN, it is important that a number of doctors coordinate care. Specialist including neurologists, ophthalmologists, rehabilitation therapies (speech, feeding, physical and occupational) and complex care professionals are required to manage symptoms. As the disease progresses, special attention may need to be paid to feeding and keeping on weight, as well as avoiding pneumonia and other infections.
